Wound Dressing
Absorbent Dressings
Basic Information
Procedure
Absorbent/Adherent and Nonadherent Dressing (ADs)
• ADs are used during the inflammatory phase of healing to assist with debridement. Wide mesh gauze usually promotes better adherence and wound debridement. AD may be applied dry or wet.
Wet dressings are used when wound fluids have high viscosity or a scab has developed. Sterile saline is often used as the wetting agent with or without the addition of soluble antiseptics, antibiotics, or enzymes.
