Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Test
Basic Information 
• Determine baseline thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations.
• Administer thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) 5 IU or thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) 0.5 to 1.0 mg IV.
• Collect blood sample at 2 and 4 hours.
• Animals with normal thyroid function should have a twofold increase in T3 at 2 hours and T4 at 4 hours after TSH administration.
• Blood samples can be collected in ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) or plain blood collection tubes.
