Rhododendron Toxicosis
Basic Information
Epidemiology
Risk Factors
Many of the Ericaceae retain their leaves in winter and so may be attractive to animals at any time.
Geography and Seasonality
Native to many parts of the temperate world where soils are acidic, rhododendrons, laurels, fetter bush, pieris, and other members of the family are small to large, branching shrubs with alternate, simple leaves and single or clusters of showy flowers (Figures 1 and 2). There are about 1000 species of Rhododendron with innumerable hybrids that are very popular showy ornamentals.
