History, Chief Complaint


Halitosis, ptyalism, dysphagia, dysmastication, quidding, anorexia, and weight loss



Physical Exam Findings


Ulcerated masses within the oral cavity that may or may not involve underlying bone. May not be visible externally characterized by facial deformity.



Etiology and Pathophysiology




• Squamous cell carcinoma: A malignant neoplastic mass with origins in the squamous epithelium; of soft tissue origin but is highly aggressive and can invade bone and surrounding structures


• Melanoma: Typically benign tumors of melanocytes; slow growth rate; minimal invasion of adjacent structures, but it does occur; classically associated with the parotid salivary glands and gray horses
