Physiology
• Neutrophils originate from myeloid precursors in the bone marrow. There are three pools of cells in the bone marrow:
The proliferative pool, which consists of dividing cells, myeloblasts, promyelocytes, and myelocytes
The storage pool, which consists of mature neutrophils and some bands. This is the first group of cells to head out into the peripheral blood when needed.
• Within the peripheral blood, there are two pools, the circulating pool and the marginating pool:
