Biomechanics
Biomechanics is the study of movement, knowledge of which enables the rider or trainer to make an objective assessment of the way the horse moves. This, combined with a good knowledge of anatomy and conformation, allows the training programme to be designed to prolong the horse’s working life. The first thing to do is to identify the weak or problem areas and then work the horse in such a way as to strengthen these areas. In this way the horse will be able to realise its potential without over-stress and is more likely to stay mentally and physically sound.
