Clinical Presentation
Physical Exam Findings
• Temperature is normal unless the patient is severely compromised.
• The patient often has tachycardia.
• The respiratory rate may be normal or may be markedly elevated; borborygmi are often audible in the thorax.
• The mucous membranes are variable from pink and moist to pale to toxic-appearing depending on the severity of compromise.
• Colic signs are variable from mild, intermittent pain to acute, severe abdominal crisis.
• Hydration is variable depending on the severity of systemic compromise.
