Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT)
Basic Information 
• Place the intravenous catheter the day before testing to reduce stress.
• Administer glucose (0.2–0.5 g/kg IV in 50% dextrose solution).
• Collect blood samples every 30 minutes for 3 hours.
• Insulin is released immediately after glucose administration.
• Serum glucose concentrations should return to baseline by 3 hours.
• A delayed return in glucose concentrations to baseline (>3 hours) suggests insulin resistance (equine metabolic syndrome).
