Embryo Transfer to Recipient
Basic Information
Anticipated Time
Need at least two, and preferably three, recipients per donor if synchronization of ovulation is used.
• Option 1: Prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) and human chorionic gonadotropin or deslorelin (less effective)
Cyclic recipients are examined by palpation and ultrasonography at regular intervals and daily during estrus. With similar follicular development, luteolysis is induced 2 days later in recipients. Once in estrus, all mares (recipients and donors) are monitored daily and ovulations are induced 1 day later in recipient mares than in the donor. With different follicular development, estrus induction is performed earlier in mares with the smaller follicle, and ovulation is induced later in mares with a larger preovulatory follicle.
• Option 2: Progesterone and estradiol (most commonly used technique)
Give combined progesterone (150 mg) and 17β-estradiol (10 mg, P&E) daily for 10 days to the recipients and donor. Administer PGF2α or analogue on tenth day
Monitor follicular development, induce ovulation, and breed donor accordingly to artificial insemination guidelines and induce ovulation in recipients 1 day after the donor.
