Physiology
Albumin is synthesized by hepatocytes, and it is a negative acute phase protein. Albumin is the major contributor to plasma colloidal osmotic pressure, and it serves as a transport protein for ions, bilirubin, fatty acids, thyroxine, drugs, and many other substances.
