Initial Database
• Complete blood count: Leukopenia and leukocytosis are common; occasionally normal.
• Rectal evaluation: The firm abscess may be palpated in the perianal area or under the submucosa of the rectum.
• Ultrasonography: May see a well-circumscribed subcutaneous or submucosal mass.
